Research Tissue Technician

The Tearney laboratory is dedicated to advance innovative medical imaging device development from research to proof-of-concept human studies to multi-center clinical trials. The Biorepository Specialist plays a key role in the management, processing, and storage of data generated from ex-vivo tissues studies conducted at The Tearney Lab.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Coordinate, manage, and organize ex-vivo animal and human tissue collection and processing projects
  2. Organize and maintain documentation for tissue collection and imaging projects
  3. Oversee cadaver tissue studies and prepare tissue for cadaver studies
  4. Interface with Tearney Lab Clinical Research Nurses, Project Coordinators, Post-Doctoral fellows and other lab staff to coordinate the collection of animal and human tissue specimens
  5. Coordinate the collection of specimens from clinical surgical procedures 
  6. Manage and coordinate the processing of human tissue specimens
  7. Analyze and manage data from tissue collection projects
    1. Collect tissue from endoscopies and surgeries, formalin fix, image, store
    2. Prepare tissue for histology
    3. Histology staining and nanozoomer techniques to process slides
    4. Scan/image/digitize histology slides 
    5. Employ cell identification techniques utilizing overall structural and anatomical knowledge
  8. Interface and coordinate with the Wellman Photopathology Core for histology slide staining, processing, and digitizing
  9. Coordinate and interface with MGH Pathology as needed
  10. Assist postdocs with orienting and imaging slides with benchtop imaging systems
  11. Operate research devices during animal studies
  12. Directly assist Senior Research Scientist and Lab Project Coordinator with lab tasks and projects 
  13. Assist with other miscellaneous projects as needed
 
Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required:
  1. Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  2. Well-organized, self-motivated, and attentive to detail
  3. Ability to multi-task, problem-solve, and manage time/work-load
  4. An analytical mindset with problem-solving skills

Education:
BS/BA Required

Experience:
2-4 years of directly relatable experience required. Familiarity with tissue collection/handling desirable but not required.
